citation question

I am using verses from the bible in a work of fiction.
Does anyone know how to cite scripture in fiction? I'm trying not to have "Genesis 1:1" appearing after every selection, as it would break up the flow. Maybe supernumbers?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You could try superscript or subscript like this

<sup>Genesis 1:1<sup>
<sub>Genesis 1:1<sub>

You might also try citing like Wikipedia - just use a reference after the selection
