accessing test from a Mac

what is the work around, if any, for students accessing a test via a Mac?

i had a student tell me that the test was not Mac compatible...so i went to our computer lab to see (i am a pc user)...low and behold i ran into the same issue using a Mac and all 3 browsers (Safari, Firefox and IE).
What happens is the test page loads then when clicking on the page to scroll down all of the text disappears…yikes!

Hi Sean,

I'm not aware of any general issues on the Mac. My best guess is that the Macintosh in question might have a very old Flash plugin version - I'd suggest updating the Flash version on the Macintosh to see if that helps.

it was on both a student's personal Mac as well as our's in our faculty lab which i know they keep up dated.

Alexander,

a friend of mine is a big time Mac programmer, web developer, and user. I had him check it out and this is what he said:

>>>>>
There is a problem which I could duplicate with Macintosh > Safari and Macintosh > Firefox.
Worked OK with Macintosh > Parallels > Internet Explorer

The text does disappear if you click in the scroll bar area.
If works OK if you click on the Up or Down arrow at the ends of the scroll bar.

I downloaded & installed the most recent Flash Player (version 9.0.124.0). No help.

i haven't had a zillion complaints (i think most of my students are pc users) but i would be curious to see if others out there have seen this issue.

thanks.

Thanks Sean,

Sounds like a problem alright - I'll look into this further and get back to you when I know more.

I have an update on this. I was able to reproduce it and have submitted it as a bug to the Adobe Flash Player Bug and Issue Management System.

[bugs.adobe.com]

While I think it is a bug with the Mac Flash Player, it's difficult to know how long it might take Adobe to correct the issue and release an updated Flash player. I'm going to see if there's any way to change the code in the scrollbar to play nice with it. I'll give you more information on that when I know more.

I managed to get to the bottom of this. The problem is caused by a slight difference in the way the Macintosh Flash player handles a particular type (the NaN type if you're interested).

I was able to alter the Scrollbar component so this situation doesn't occur, and the fix can be applied in the immediate term by downloading the theme with the new Scrollbar component and applying it to your test - here's the link for the Fresh theme,
[www.questionwriter.com]

I'll also be applying the update to all of the themes and including them in the next update of the software.

This has been solved in the latest version of QWR 3.1, hasn't it, Alex? My students complain about this, so I'm going to republish the quizzes in the new version, if this has been solved.

Yes, this is fixed in version 3.1 - however the problem was with the scrollbar with each individual theme, so you'll need to re-apply the theme (Choose switch theme) and then re-publish.
