Themes and buttons

To whom it may Concern

I wish to ask the question whether custom button images can be used within the program.

The program allows custom background images to "create" your own theme, but I cannot see anywhere where a user can import their own button image to use with the new theme. Such a feature would truly provide the user to create their own theme within the Themes that are included within the program.

Thanks and I look forward to your response.

Regards

Hallo BOgrady

Thank you for your suggestion, I will add it to our feature request list. We refer to this list as we make improvements to the software and try to incorporate our users' suggestions, though I cannot promise when or if any particular feature requested might make it into a new version.

We do try to let our users know when a feature that they have requested is implemented but you can also keep up to date with upgrades and new features by subscribing to our blog:

Please let us know if you have any more suggestions or questions about Question Writer.

If you just want to change the look of the buttons, and not the behaviour, you can edit the .qwz file directly in a text editor . . . you'll need to find the following lines,

<!--Radio Button Info Tab-->
<pair name="renderchoiceradiobuttonupstate" value="radioreduce.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoiceradiobuttonupstateroll" value="radioenlarge.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoiceradiobuttondownstate" value="radioon2.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoiceradiobuttondownstateroll" value="radioon2.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoiceradiobuttonwidth" value="25" />
<pair name="renderchoiceradiobuttonheight" value="25" />
<!--Checkbox Button Info Tab-->
<pair name="renderchoicecheckboxbuttonupstate" value="checkreduce.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoicecheckboxbuttonupstateroll" value="checkenlarge.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoicecheckboxbuttondownstate" value="checkonreduce.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoicecheckboxbuttondownstateroll" value="checkonenlarge.swf" />
<pair name="renderchoicecheckboxbuttonwidth" value="25" />
<pair name="renderchoicecheckboxbuttonheight" value="25" />

While it is possible to edit the theme files directly in a text editor to change their behaviour - it's not for the faint hearted! You'd need to import any images or flash files that you want as images into a quiz, then edit the quiz file to use the images instead of the default button images. Not too easy unless you're a programmer. We'll look at including a feature to change the buttons in the QW interface. In the meantime, we provide a custom theme design service if you need something urgently.

How do you create your own theme? I want to make one that matches the look of my website, and I know other people have done this, but I dont know how. Any insight? Thanks.

Hallo Joseph

The easiest way is to start with a theme where you like the fonts and layout and then change the background and loader image. There is some guidance on this in our online manual: [en.wikibooks.org]

I hope this helps you, but if any further information please email us again.
