According to About My Area, there are more than a million hospital admissions each year thanks to the wonderful use of alcohol. And no, I have nothing against alcohol, especially if it’s taken in moderation. However, the occasional alcohol misuse (read as insanely excessive drinking because it’s your friend’s birthday) or alcohol abuse is something else.
This is why in the UK, a nationwide e-learning course was launched for hospital staff. What is the idea? For hospital personnel can be equipped with the right skills to care for patients who are under the influence. Perhaps another e-learning program should be in the works as well? About educating the general public on the dangers of drinking themselves silly.
