Can Humor Take Away from Learning?

I’ve been writing on how important it is to incorporate fun in learning. However, I came across an article that asks whether using humor is always appropriate. It’s an interesting question because you’d definitely assume the answer to be yes.

According to research humor can definitely engage students who aren’t motivated. So in this case, yes, fire away with the jokes. But for those who are already motivated, humor can serve as a distraction.

As for me, I’ve always assumed everyone in class can benefit from a few laughs. Apparently, it may not always be the case but I think it’s still good to keep humor close by.
