There’s a lot of interest in merging fun with learning. Why? Because old classroom techniques are quite boring.

So what are some folks cooking up? They are Using Game Mechanics to Enhance eLeanring. And no, this doesn’t mean you will be seeing an Xbox or Playstation in classrooms soon. (Are those collective sighs of relief from parents I hear?). What it does mean however is that game mechanics:

…encourages and urges the users to learn and explore properties with the help of different feedback mechanisms. Games are appealing because they engage the viewers and player in a particularly entertaining way.

So game mechanics are used to keep students interested in learning, the way kids are glued to their video games. This is quite an interesting teaching technique which I hope will catch on. The classroom seems like a glum place that requires a livelier approach, don’t you think?
