How can you encourage learning?

An article called Design e-Learning Like a Game Developer: Provide Incentives for Good Work should be able to help.

It makes reference to the famous Nintendo game Super Mario. For those of you who remember, during the game, there are tons of “rewards” given to a player who does “good things.” For example, hit the golden block with the question mark and you collect a coin.

In addition, searching for more coins in the game encourages the player to explore a level more and find secret passages that lead to, well, more coins.

The article points out that e-learning should follow a similar method. Rewarding even small milestones during lessons so students get a sense of fulfillment, therefore become more engaged.

It really is a simple concept but perhaps one that is often forgotten. But now that you know, there is no excuse not to implement it.

Happy teaching!
